Falling Leaves is a memoir written by Adeline Yen Mah, one of my all time favourite authors when I was younger. I’ve always been fascinated by stories related to China despite having never been there before. I can say that I’m somewhat over-inspired by the book title, but why it relates to me is a completely different story.

Though the book is about an unwanted child, I clearly am not, despite the fact that I occasionally joke about being the middle child (who in many typical Chinese families, is often ignored because I am not a boy, the eldest, or youngest). I am actually well loved by my parents and I play an important role in my family (bully, sister, brother, you name it).

I first left home in the Autumn of 2009. Leaving home was not the most difficult decision in my life – I knew it was coming… yet I knew I was unprepared. To go into a completely new environment, enrolling in a new school, adapting to the different seasons… the list was endless! But like the saying goes, “falling leaves return to their roots”. I’ve fallen from the tree, my home, and I’m currently swaying in the wind waiting for the day when I return back at my roots.

And this blog is my journey to discover who I am, inside and out.
